The Los Angeles Dodgers are one of the most historic teams in Major League Baseball dating back to 1890 when they became a professional team. Of course, they did not start in Los Angeles rather they began in Brooklyn. They had many previous names until settling on the Dodgers in 1932. They were known as the Brooklyn Dodgers until 1958 when the team moved to Los Angeles. This season the Dodgers are celebrating 50 years in Los Angeles, and would like all Dodger fans to participate. The Dodgers are also popular for breaking the color barrier. On April 15, 1947 Jackie Robinson debuted with the Dodgers, and will be immortalized forever with Jackie Robinson Day. On Jackie Robinson Day, the league allows all players to support and pay tribute to Jackie by wearing a number 42 jersey instead of their normal number. The Dodgers have won several World Series title throughout the years: 1955, 1959, 1963, 1965, 1981, and 1988. They had an opportunity to win more by winning the NL West; however, in 2004 and 2006 they had early exits in the first round of the playoffs. The city of Los Angeles wants another World Series title or another division title; both of which the Dodgers will try to achieve in 2008. However, they will have to start the season with some key members of the club on the DL including Nomar Garicaparra, Jason Schmidt, and Andy LaRoche. Pitchers Brad Penny and Derek Lowe will have to step up for the Dodges to begin the season on the right foot. The fielding must be precise and the hitting powerful. Accomplishing this must be new addition Andruw Jones, all-star Jeff Kent, and Rafael Furcal. Solid efforts in April and May make baseball easier in September and October.
