Bio: Elton John was surrounded by music his whole life and growing up he enjoyed every genre of music, from Elvis Presley to Handel. It was obvious early on that Elton had a gift, and he was lucky enough to attend the Royal Academy of Music in London. It’s impossible to even highlight Elton John’s resume in few words; his music now spans over 3 generations and nearly 500 tracks. He even got to perform on stage with John Lennon, unfortunately in the performance that would be Lennon’s last. In 1998, John was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for his services to music and charity. A few years before, John had established the Elton John AIDS Foundation, which to this day aids both the UK and US in aids prevention and treatment.
Fun Fact: Many know of Elton John, but few know how he got his stage name. As it turns out, Elton John’s first band, Bluesology, had a saxophone player named Elton Dean and a lead singer named Long John Baldry, and out of admiration for these two he created his stage name, Elton John.
