The local London punk rock scene inspired the Police, and their style was a new wave type of post-punk influenced by jazz, reggae, and punk. The band includes: Sting (Gordon Sumner) – lead vocals and bass, Andy Summers – guitarist, and Anthony Copeland – drummer, founder. The Police have sold over 50 million albums after achieving global fame in the ‘80’s. They have also won six Grammy’s and Rolling Stone magazine ranked them 70th on the all-time rock list. Their first hit single, ‘Roxanne,’ is still popular all over the world today, but the band would not last. As Sting’s popularity rose as he began a film and solo career, the band began to deteriorate and members went their separate ways. The only played together on a few rare occasions, but many regretted that there was never any farewell tour. In 2003, the Police were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and performed two songs during the ceremony. In 2007 the band agreed to take part in a reunion tour to appease the masses and celebrate 30 years since their first single. After only two dates on the tour there seemed to be a rift growing. Sting has come out and publicly stated that after this tour the band will part ways again forever.
